Ups the survival odds. It's after the enemy has been dealt with that the worst dangers present themselves.

I wonder how much of a beating that armor can take now that the gel layer was hardened and made brittle by that flamethrower?

It'll stop a handgun bullet, but anything bigger will shatter the part of the armor that gets hit
